Encaustic
The images are face mounted to birch panels before coating with encaustic medium. The medium is a mix of refined beeswax and damar resin. The resin raises the melting temperature of the wax and hardens the finished surface to create a lustrous enamel-like effect. Each layer is applied while molten and then put through a cooling - heating process. After the final layer the piece is left to harden for a few days before buffing.
